Privacy Policy
Effective July 16, 2026
The short version
Rollbite™ helps you pick a restaurant. We store the minimum needed to make the app work — your favorites, the places you’ve marked visited, and your roll history. Both the web and iOS apps may show Google-served ads (Google AdSense on the web, Google Mobile Ads on iOS). Rollbite never sells your personal data.
What we store
An anonymous device ID — a first-party cookie (rb_anon) that lets us remember your favorites, visited places, exclusions, and rolls without requiring an account. It identifies your browser, not you.
Your activity in the app — each roll (meal, filters, which restaurant came up, and whether you tapped directions, menu, reviews, or reserve) and your saved/visited/excluded places. We use this to run features like the “never tried” filter and to understand how Rollbite is used.
If you sign in with Google or Apple (optional) — the name, email address, and provider identifier they make available (and a Google profile photo on web), used to run your account and sync your favorites across devices.
What we don't do
Solo “Near me” rolls stay on your device. Distances for ordinary rolls are computed locally. If you deliberately start a “Roll together” session using Near me, Rollbite sends that session’s origin to the server so every participant votes on the same nearby pool; it is not included in advertising requests.
We do not sell personal data. Rollbite does not send the precise location you grant to the app or site in an advertising request.
Advertising
On the web, Rollbite uses Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads and to limit how often you see them. Visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland are asked for their choice through Google’s certified consent platform before personalized ads are used, and can decline or choose non-personalized ads there.
In the iOS app, on returning-user sessions, Rollbite may use Google Mobile Ads to show an interstitial at a natural break after several completed rolls. We use Google’s User Messaging Platform to request and remember privacy choices where required before requesting an ad.
Google may process information such as your IP address, device and app information, advertising identifiers when permitted, ad impressions and interactions, and diagnostics to deliver and measure ads and prevent fraud. Google handles this information under its own privacy policy. If Google requires an in-app privacy-options entry point for your region, Rollbite displays one in the setup screen footer.
Cookies
Rollbite’s own cookies are strictly functional first-party cookies: the anonymous device ID above (expires after 2 years) and, if you sign in, session cookies from our sign-in provider. In addition, the web app loads Google AdSense, which may set third-party advertising cookies. Where consent is required (EEA, UK, Switzerland), Google’s consent platform asks before personalized ads are used; you can change that choice there, or clear cookies in your browser at any time.
Services we rely on
Restaurant details and photos come from Google Maps Platform; optional sign-in uses Google; the app is hosted on Vercel with data stored in Neon (Postgres); map tiles are served by OpenFreeMap; the web app uses Google AdSense; and the iOS app uses Google Mobile Ads and Google’s User Messaging Platform. Like any network resource, these providers receive standard request data (such as your IP address) when their services load, subject to their own privacy policies.
Your choices
You can clear the Rollbite cookie in your browser at any time (this resets your anonymous history) or sign out to stop account syncing. If you have an account, you can permanently delete it — along with your saved spots, been-theres, and profile — right in the app or on the web: open the account menu and choose “Delete account”. Roll statistics are kept only in de-identified, aggregate form. You can also email us and we’ll delete your data for you.
Children
Rollbite is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
